When our planned fun run to the Soldierstone Monument was derailed due to deteriorating road conditions and safety considerations, Steve Dierks stepped into the void with an ad hoc drive to Guanella Pass. Saturday, 17 August, was a perfect day to put the top down – blue skies and warm temps – and 7 SL drivers and 1 ML chase vehicle accepted the challenge.
Our leader led us north and west through Woodland Park, Deckers, and Grant before heading up the mountain to the summit. Miraculously, we were able to stay together and made quite the parade as we headed uphill. The views were spectacular, and we passed lots of trees that promise a ton of color come Fall.
After lunch at the Shaggy Sheep, yes, that’s a real place with great brisket, we headed home past Tarryall Reservoir. It was a great day with minimal traffic far from the madding crowd. Our thanks to Steve for saving the day with a fabulous drive.
